Necessities

1 • Fully Vaccinated •
As age dictates -- your veterinarian has the final determination of appropriate vaccinations for your dog, but dogs must have the following to participate at Wag the Dog:

Rabies (if over 6 months of age as required by law)
Distemper (3 sets for puppies; every 1-3 years thereafter)
Parvo (3 sets for puppies; every 1-3 years thereafter)
*Distemper & Parvo often are given in multi-pathogen shots noted as: DHLPP, DHPP, DAP on vaccination records.  The length of time each is effective is dependent on the specific vaccination and determined by your veterinarian.
Bordetella (bi-yearly/yearly based on vaccine your vet uses)

Please note that your dog will not be accepted for any service if he/she is not current on all of the above vaccinations or if the vaccination records are not provided at the time your dog presents at Wag the Dog.  If your veterinarian has advised you against further vaccinations, antibody titer documentation for parvo and distemper will suffice if presented in conjunction with a certificate of good health.

Copies of vaccination records from a veterinarian are required.  Hand written breeder vaccination or puppy vaccination cards are not sufficient.  Vaccination vial labels are not sufficient.

2 • In Good General Health •
If your dog has not been seen by a veterinarian in the last year for vaccinations, a Certificate of Good Health is required.

*If your dog exhibits any signs of illness such as coughing, diarrhea, vomiting, he/she will not be allowed in daycare &/or boarding - even with a reservation.  If a dog exhibits signs of sickness while at daycare, the dog will be isolated from all other dogs, the owner notified and veterinarian consulted as needed.

3 • Friendly to all dogs & people •
This is a happy, fun place for everyone!  Aggressive behavior of any sort is not appropriate in a daycare setting.

4 • Spayed/Neutered •
(if over 7 months of age)

This is a requirement of all dogs.  We know there are some very lovely intact dogs, but will still insist on this very important requirement. Research (and ample experience) suggests that spaying and neutering reduces the propensity for some behavioral problems such as reactivity to the same sex (of both intact and altered counterparts).  Additionally, we want to encourage as many owners as possible to spay and neuter their dogs!
We're very sorry, but show dogs need to
meet this requirement as well.
Getting started

When making a first day reservation, we will need to know:
1.  What is the age and breed of your dog?
We do not have any breed restrictions, just behavior restrictions.

2.  Has your dog interacted with other dogs off-leash before?

3.  If so, how did he/she react?

4.  How do you feel your dog would do in a large group of dogs?

5.  Does your dog have a history of exhibiting any behavioral problems associated with people and/or other dogs?
For everyone's safety, we require full disclosure of behavior with people and other dogs!

We do not have a separate evaluation visit prior to your dog's first daycare day; your dog's first day serves as an entire evaluation day. Your first visit reservation is made for a day in which you are able to bring your dog to daycare first thing in the morning - between 7am & 8am.  First day appointments are available Monday - Friday.  This gives us time to get to know your dog and the opportunity to evaluate him/her while interacting with dogs one at a time as they arrive -- as opposed to him/her being introduced into a group of dogs.  This helps relieve some of the stress of being the 'new kid' and renders more positive attitudes and behaviors.

If for some reason your dog did not interact well with the other dogs, we would explore putting your dog into a different playroom that he/she would be more happy in.  If for some reason we determined your dog did not display safe and appropriate play interactions, he/she would then be placed in one of our boarding kennels with a soft bed and a yummy Kong (if its OK with you!).  You would be notified and given the option to come get your dog or to have your dog remain kenneled for the day.

This is why our first day is only $10 -- its a trial day for both of us!
